Thomaz Hamilton, 24, is accused of killing Isabella Stroupe, 19, on Friday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a man in connection with a 19-year-old woman’s death on Friday.
Thomaz Hamilton, 24, is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape in the death of Isabella Mary Alexander Stroupe, 19, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Stroupe was found unresponsive at an apartment on Yateswood Drive around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, according to an incident report. Stroupe was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators ruled Stroupe’s death a homicide after an autopsy from the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office. Stroupe had stab wounds and multiple broken bones, according to an affidavit filed in Hamilton’s case.
Hamilton told authorities he was in a dating relationship with Stroupe and lived with her on Yateswood Drive. The affidavit states Stroupe was being tortured over a period of several months. She was physically unable to provide consent to sexual intercourse, which Hamilton admitted to having with Stroupe, according to records.
Detectives searched the apartment and found a knife with blood wrapped in cellophane, a baseball bat, a sword, multiple cell phones, clothing with blood, and a mattress with blood.
Hamilton was arrested on Tuesday. He’s being held without bond in Mecklenburg County jail. His next court date is scheduled for May 27.
