Kouri Richins, the wife and mother who fatally poisoned her husband with a lethal amount of Fentanyl, was transferred to the Utah State Correctional Facility, where she will spend the rest of her life.
A new mugshot was snapped during her intake.

BACKSTORY:
Kouri Richins, 35, was charged with aggravated murder in the March 3, 2022 death of her husband, Eric Richins, 39. Prosecutors alleged the home-flipper poisoned Eric’s drink with five times the lethal dose of f*ntanyl, weeks after an earlier failed attempt to kill him by slipping the drug into a sandwich.
Authorities said Richins was motivated by mounting financial trouble and stood to gain from her husband’s life insurance and $3.6 million estate. She was over $4 million in debt from her failing business and numerous loans. Prosecutors alleged she secretly took out multiple life insurance policies totaling roughly $2 million and later attempted to make herself the beneficiary — a move Eric reportedly discovered before removing her from his will and changing the policies.
Richins was having an affair with her handyman. He testified at her trial. According to court filings, she texted him after the first failed poisoning attempt, saying, “If [Eric] could just go away … life would be perfect.” In the days leading up to Eric’s death, she sent another message promising that “life is going to be different.” She planned a vacation for them shortly after her husband’s death and spoke of her plans for their future together.
Prosecutors said Richins prepared the fatal Moscow Mule under the guise of celebrating a real estate sale. She told investigators she later fell asleep in her son’s bed after he had a nightmare and returned to the bedroom to find her husband unresponsive and cold.

Nearly a year after Eric’s death — and a month before her arrest — Richins self-published a children’s book titled “Are You With Me?” which she promoted during a local TV appearance on Good Things Utah. The book, dedicated to “my amazing husband and a wonderful father,” was marketed as a resource to help children cope with loss. She advertised it in support groups and sold it for $14.99 on Amazon. It was removed after her arrest. Come to find out, she didn’t even write it.
Richins was arrested in May 2023. Prosecutors later added 26 additional charges in a separate case alleging financial crimes connected to the murder.
She pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, and drug possession crimes, and has remained jailed since her arrest.
On March 16, she was found guilty on all counts.
On May 13, which happened to be Eric’s birthday, she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
