Pete Alonso habla sobre su papel junto a Juan Soto en los Mets para la próxima temporada.

Pete Alonso Reveals How The Mets Swayed Him In Free Agency

Pete Alonso took a long time to secure a deal with the New York Mets. With several teams trying to sign the first baseman, the Mets and Steve Cohen prevailed eventually. Steve Cohen and his team had the biggest offseason in the league.

They acquired Juan Soto and brought in several other stars, including Alonso. However, the “Polar Bear’s” deal took longer than expected. Many believed that the Mets would drop out on pursuing the slugger. After a long wait and much drama involved, Cohen finally brought him back to Queens.

With spring training underway, Alonso revealed how the Mets swayed him in his free agency.

“Previously, I never got a look behind the curtain,” Pete Alonso said. “Or necessarily a full understanding of the in-depth philosophy, the vision for the future. Cause for me, when you go through and play for an organization, once you get called up. You don’t necessarily get the full picture, the full playbook.”

Alonso further mentioned that Scott Boras, David Stearns, and Cohen sat down and discussed the team’s vision. The slugger said that they talked about the team’s future over the next few years.

“The philosophies, the fabric of the organization, the consistency from top to bottom, whether its staff, players, gameplay,” Alonso continued.

Pete Alonso Opens Up On Playing With Juan Soto

Alonso further opened up about playing with Juan Soto on the same team. The All-Star stated that Soto is a great player and playing against him for the last six years has been tiring.

“Adding Juan is huge. Because playing against him for the past six years, the dude’s a baller. We all know that. He’s a game-changing type of player, and playing against him for the past six seasons, you’re tired of seeing him have that game-winning hit or making that big play in the field,” Alonso said.

Pete Alonso, Franciso Lindor, and Soto will play a crucial role for the Mets in the upcoming season. The trio will be one of the best combinations in the MLB. Alonso and Soto will need to carry the offense since the Mets are struggling with injured pitchers
