East of Eden, the upcoming Netflix series starring Florence Pugh and Mike Faist, has added Kin star Ciarán Hinds to its cast.

The limited series is an adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic 1952 novel, with a feature-film adaptation in 1955 launching the career of the iconic James Dean.

As per Variety, the stacked cast has now grown even further, with Hinds — who played Eamon Cunningham in BBC’s Kin — being joined by Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders in the series.

The group join the previously announced Pugh, Faist, Christopher Abbott and Hoon Lee, with Zoe Kazan penning the scripts for the whole series. Hinds, who has also starred in Belfast, will reportedly play Samuel Hamilton, whilst Letts assumes the role of Cyrus Trask.

Plimpton, who has been cast as Faye, shared her excitement at appearing in the series, writing via Instagram: “Now it can be told! SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED to be a part of this once in a lifetime production. What a killer cast of brilliant actors, and I’m thrilled to finally have a chance to work with @zoe.kazan. And @florencepugh, an actress I’ve adored for years.

Kazan, whose grandfather Elia directed the 1955 film, previously spoke of her passion for the project, saying: “I fell in love with East of Eden when I first read it, in my teens. Since then, adapting Steinbeck’s novel – the great, sprawling, three-generational entirety of it – has been my dream.

“More than anything, I have wanted to give full expression to the novel’s astonishing, singular antiheroine, Cathy Ames. Florence Pugh is our dream Cathy; I can’t imagine a more thrilling actor to bring this character to life.”

East of Eden has no release date.
