Heartbreaking Tragedy: A postal worker and mother of two was kidnapped and murdered while delivering mail just months after losing her husband in a fatal car crash

A hardworking mail carrier and mom who said her children made ‘life worth living’ was senselessly murdered on the job in rural North Carolina.

Brandi Reynolds, a United States Postal Service mail carrier, was allegedly kidnapped and slain while working her route Friday, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

The tragedy took place just months after Brandi lost her husband, Brent, in a fatal car crash.

Police claim the mother was restrained before she was killed, according to a warrant obtained by the Charlotte Observer.

The mom’s lifeless body was discovered by deputies from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office when they responded to a request for law enforcement assistance at 304 Montieth Acres in Hays.

William Craig Durham was arrested in connection with the alleged murder and is accused of ‘removing the victim from one place to another without the consent of the victim,’ per the warrant.

The murder suspect appeared before a judge Monday, where he was ordered held without bond.

Officials have not said whether Brandi knew Durham nor have they identified a possible motive for the brutal slaying.

Online court records did not indicate whether Durham was represented by an attorney or had entered a plea.

The mail carrier was a beloved mother of two daughters, according to photos shared on Facebook.

‘The reason I get up every morning. Love these babies,’ Brandi wrote in a February post, sharing a photo with her two children.

‘They are what makes life worth living,’ she added.

Brandi’s husband, Brent, died in a car crash on December 24, 2025, according to Fox 8 reports.

While driving a Ram truck on Mathis Mill Road in Wilkes County, Brent crossed the center line, left the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Brandi’s mother, Kathy, posted a grief-stricken tribute to her late daughter on Facebook.
