According to the announcement, the vigil will take place Monday, May 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Traveler’s Cart, located next to Traveler’s Table.
It’s been nearly a week since Matthew and Thy Mitchell and their two children were killed in what medical examiners confirmed was a murder-suicide. And as loved ones continue to mourn their loss, a candlelight vigil will be held in remembrance of the couple who helped transform Traveler’s Table into one of Montrose’s best-known restaurants.
Restaurant officials announced Friday that it will host a public vigil Monday afternoon following the deaths of co-owners Thy and Matthew Mitchell and their two children earlier this week.
“This week has been incredibly difficult, and we know many of you have expressed a desire to show your love, support, and respects,” the restaurant wrote in a statement shared online.
According to the announcement, the vigil will take place on Monday, May 11, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Traveler’s Cart, located next to Traveler’s Table.
“This gathering is open to our community of supporters, longtime guests, team members past and present, and all those who wish to honor and pay their respects to the Mitchell family,” the restaurant added.

Organizers said the vigil will be held in the south parking lot next to the paint store and asked members of the media to allow staff, family and guests space to grieve privately. The restaurant itself will remain closed during the vigil to allow space for private reflection.
Organizers also said parking will be limited and encouraged attendees to use rideshare services if possible.
The vigil comes days after the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences ruled that Thy Mitchell and the couple’s children, Maxwell and Maya, died by homicide, while Matthew’s death was ruled a suicide.
Houston police discovered the family dead inside their River Oaks-area home last Monday, sending shockwaves through Houston’s restaurant community.
In the days since, customers, friends, and fellow hospitality workers have gathered outside Traveler’s Table, leaving flowers, notes, and messages while sharing memories of Thy Mitchell, who many described as the heart of the business.
“We welcome everyone to come together in remembrance, reflection, and support for one another during this difficult time,” the restaurant wrote. “We kindly ask for continued unity, compassion, and respect as we honor those we have lost.”
