Breaking: A controversial Nolan Wells video fuels growing conspiracy theories as police confirm his death remains under investigation

A TROUBLING viral video allegedly showing a tense Fourth of July confrontation has sparked conspiracy theories after a teen football star was found dead nearby.

Investigators have confirmed they are looking into the clip as unanswered questions continue to swirl around Nolan Xavier Wells’ final hours.

The footage was allegedly filmed on Horn Island, Mississippi, where the 18-year-old vanished while celebrating the holiday with friends.

It appears to show several people arguing near the shoreline as boats line the beach.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the video is authentic or connected to Nolan’s death.

Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter told TMZ his office is aware of the circulating footage.

He said investigators are actively looking into it as part of the ongoing probe.

The clip has fueled a wave of online speculation, but officials have not named any suspects or said whether foul play is suspected.

The person who posted the video on Facebook claimed it was taken at 4:01 pm on the north side of the west tip of Horn Island.

“We were parked right next to the boat Nolan was allegedly on,” the poster wrote.

“Hope this helps in any way.

“This was immediately after the big fight that broke out up on the shore.”

The poster said they were not sure whether Nolan appeared in the clip, but urged people who could slow down the footage to review it.

“I’m not sure if this is Nolan, but it could be,” they wrote.

In the footage, a crowd appears to be looking toward one direction as people gather near the shoreline.

Some social media users have claimed the clip shows Nolan or captures a fight tied to his disappearance.

But those claims have not been confirmed by authorities, and investigators have not said whether the video is connected to his death.

Investigators are still asking anyone who was on Horn Island on July 4 to come forward with photos, videos, or information.

Nolan disappeared after spending the holiday on the island, a popular boating spot off Mississippi’s Gulf Coast.

He had traveled there with friends before vanishing near the western tip of the island, where the current is known to be strong.

A body was found on the northwest end of Horn Island around 8:45 am on Monday, according to Sheriff Ledbetter.

The remains were discovered by a park ranger after a massive search by multiple agencies.

Officials have not yet formally identified the body, but Nolan’s mom, Christine Wonsley, later confirmed her son had died.

The Jackson County coroner is using DNA testing to officially confirm the identity.

Nolan’s cause and manner of death have not been released.

The mystery deepened after loved ones said Nolan had become separated from his phone during the island trip.

Christine later said the phone had been returned to the family in Mississippi.

Cajun Navy Incident Commander Josh Gill told NOLA.com that Nolan had apparently last been seen “hanging out with a girl.”

But Nolan’s best friend, 17-year-old Jayvon Williams, said the teen had also been speaking with other friends in the crowded area.

Williams told NOLA.com he was supposed to ride to Horn Island on the same boat as Nolan, but it filled up.

He took another boat and said he saw Nolan after 4 pm Saturday.

“As soon as we got out there,” Williams told the outlet, “he told me that he loved me.”

William said he and Nolan had both left their phones on the boat Nolan rode out on.

Friends said Nolan knew how to swim and had taken lessons at the YMCA in Ocean Springs.

Christine had desperately pleaded for help before her son’s death was confirmed.

“His father, Elmore Wonsley and I are not ok,” she wrote on Facebook during the search.

“We have so many questions. Our hearts are breaking, we keep waiting for Nolan to walk through that door with his beautiful smile and a joke of course.

“We just pray our son is alive & safe.”

She also asked anyone who had been on Horn Island or near the water after 4:30 pm Saturday to send her footage.

The heartbreaking plea came shortly after Christine had shared a TikTok of Nolan shopping for college supplies.

The video showed the proud mom browsing in Target and Marshalls with her son ahead of his return to Southwest Mississippi Community College.

“Dilly dallying with the kid. A little college prep for our Nono!” Christine captioned the clip.

In the footage, Christine is seen picking up stationery, toothpaste, a toothbrush, Listerine, and a laundry basket.

Nolan, known to loved ones as Nono, could be seen beside her during the ordinary errand that has now taken on a devastating meaning.

Christine later thanked those who helped search for Nolan in a gut-wrenching Facebook post.

“I want to thank our family, friends, community, United Cajun Navy, local law enforcement, and everyone involved for all the love, support, resources over the last few days,” she wrote.

“His father, our family, friends and I are absolutely devastated.

“My heartbroken for my sweet son who was always willing to cheer and uplift others.

“Nolan was a special soul, God took his time creating our son.

“I ask that you please give me and my family time to grieve.”

Nolan had been due to return to Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit on Monday to practice for the upcoming football season.

He previously played at Ocean Springs High School, where coaches remembered him as more than a talented athlete.

“We are devastated by Nolan’s passing,” Ocean Springs head football coach Jake Bramlett told WLOX.

“He was the kind of son, teammate, friend and student that every coach hopes to have in a program.

“Nolan was so much more than an outstanding football player.

“He carried himself with humility, treated others with respect, worked hard and led by example.”

Southwest Mississippi Community College President Dr. J. Steven Bishop said the school was heartbroken by Nolan’s death.

“The entire Southwest family is heartbroken as we mourn the tragic loss of Nolan Wells,” Bishop told WLOX.

“We remember Nolan as a well-respected young man who was very popular among friends, faculty, and staff.

“We loved Nolan, and he will be greatly missed in many ways.”

Investigators have not publicly confirmed what happened to Nolan after he was last seen.

A GoFundMe has also been setup by Nolan’s parents to cover funeral and memorial expenses, celebration of life services, and any additional costs associated with honoring Nolan’s memory.

They have raised over $120,000 out of $210,000 as of now.
