Bodycam Released: Karmelo Anthony breaks down in newly surfaced police footage showing the aftermath of Austin Metcalf’s k!lling

Newly released body camera footage captures the arrest of Texas teenager Karmelo Anthony, who was later convicted in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf following an altercation at a high school track meet.

The footage was shared by the Associated Press after a jury found Anthony, now 19, guilty of murder on June 9.

In the roughly three-minute video, Anthony is shown in handcuffs as an officer searches his pockets and refers to him as the alleged suspect. As officers escort him from the scene, Anthony can be heard saying through tears, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to but he put his hands on me.”

Throughout the encounter, Anthony responds to officers’ questions with “yes sir” and “no ma’am.” The footage ends with an officer collecting Anthony’s personal information while he sits in the back seat of a Frisco, Texas police car.

Anthony, who was 17 at the time of the stabbing, had claimed he stabbed 17-year-old Metcalf in self-defense at the track meet in Frisco in April 2025.

Authorities said that Anthony stabbed Metcalf after being asked to move from a tent under which he was sitting, an eyewitness told police, according to a probable cause affidavit previously obtained by PEOPLE.

“Touch me and see what happens,” Anthony told Metcalf, per the affidavit. When Metcalf went to physically move Anthony, Anthony pulled a knife out of his bag, stabbed Metcalf in the chest and fled from the tent.

After he was found, Anthony told an arresting officer: “I was protecting myself,” the affidavit states.

Witnesses told investigators the two boys did not know each other prior to the incident, per the affidavit.

The case drew controversy ahead of Anthony’s trial after no Black jurors were selected to serve on the jury. Anthony is Black, while Metcalf was White.

“This case has nothing to do with race,” prosecutor Bill Wirskye said during opening arguments, NBC News reported. “This case is not self-defense. Unjustified provoked murder — that’s why we’re here this morning,” he added.

Speaking in court ahead of Anthony’s sentencing, Metcalf’s mother remembered her son as a “peacemaker” and a “protector.”

“There was a part of him you can never take from me, the strength I still get from him every day, because I know what it was like to be loved by him,” Meghan Metcalf said, according to NBC 5. “My son was murdered. He didn’t just die. He was taken from us. Just as he was starting to live.”

Anthony has since been sentenced to 35 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after serving half of that time, Fox 4 reported.
