Former Syracuse quarterback Rex Culpepper has died at the age of 28, his fiancee announced on Monday.
Culpepper, the son of ex-NFL star Brad Culpepper, only popped the question to partner Savanna Morgan last month.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, he died as the result of injuries suffered in a dirt bike accident in Georgia on Saturday.
Savanna confirmed his tragic passing on Instagram, writing alongside a series of photos of them together: ‘No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting.
‘Rex didn’t always believe in soulmates but towards the end he told me that he didn’t realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other.
‘And one thing about us is that we lived every single day like it was our last. We did every little thing that we set our minds to, between learning new skills and hobbies, and traveling to new places, there was never any free time with us and not a moment spent apart. I don’t regret a single day in our 6 years.

Culpepper made 30 appearances for the Orange, completing 139 passes for 11 touchdowns
‘You made six years feel like a lifetime Rexy.’
Culpepper made 30 appearances for the Syracuse Orange over the course of his college career, completing 139 passes for 11 touchdowns, after primarily serving as a backup quarterback.
Back in March 2018, the ex-Plant High School signal caller announced publicly that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, before celebrating being given the all-clear three months later.
While undergoing chemotherapy, Culpepper famously played in a spring game for Syracuse and led the team to a touchdown on their final drive.
‘I will never take for granted how cool Rex was and how cool he eventually made me too,’ Morgan continued in her Instagram post. ‘I will carry on his hobbies forever.
‘I don’t think this Rex shaped hole inside of me will ever be filled. But seeing how much everyone around him loved him so greatly, makes my heart full. So here are some parts of him that I would like to share with you, to hopefully make your heart full too.

Rex’s younger brother, Judge, also played for Plant in high school before college stints with Penn State and Toledo as a defensive tackle.
Judge was then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team their father spent the majority of his NFL career with, back in 2024.
As well as having a dad who played in the NFL, Rex and Judge’s mother Monica appeared on reality TV series Survivor back in 2012, before returning to compete on the show a year later with Brad.
