The person who came to Nancy Guthrie’s house in the middle of the night went to great lengths to conceal their identity, according to a new video the FBI released. In the surveillance footage, the person is appears to have tampered with Guthrie’s camera, FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on social media.
The person is wearing a full ski mask that leaves only their eyes and lips visible. The rest of their body is also fully covered by heavy gloves and a jacket that zips all the way up to their neck.
None of the subject’s clothes have obvious logos or identifying markings on them, including the person’s backpack.
Minutes after law enforcement released astonishing new videos taken from the front porch of Nancy Guthrie’s home, Savannah Guthrie reposted the images on her Instagram account with a message from her family.
We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.

The masked person seen at Nancy Guthrie’s doorstep appears to be armed.
An item resembling the handle of a firearm appears to be in a holster in the subject’s front waistband, as seen in a new photo released by officials today.

Investigators hope photo will lead to “oh my gosh moment,” says former FBI official
New black-and-white images of a person at Nancy Guthrie’s front door released by investigators do not provide an easily identifiable view of the subject, but a former deputy director of the FBI says they are still full of potential clues.
CNN contributor Andrew McCabe notes the person’s jacket appears to have distinctive reflective elements, and the subject may be carrying a penlight in their mouth at one point.
“Any one of these little details is very small and not necessarily identifiable, but when you put them together, you overlay them, that’s when someone who knows this person looks at some of these images and says, like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s whoever,’” McCabe said. “And really that ‘oh my gosh’ moment is what we’re hoping for.” Nancy Guthrie’s door camera was disconnected, but video was recovered from “residual data,” authorities say
The four photos released by the FBI from a surveillance camera at Nancy Guthrie’s home were recovered from “residual data located in backend systems,” despite the camera being disconnected at 1:47 a.m. the morning of her disappearance.
Authorities say the masked person seen in the photos is an “armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera” at Guthrie’s house.
“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors, including the removal of recording devices,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement.
The sheriff’s department said there are no news briefings planned today.
