Trans school shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar had obsession with drugs and guns, chilling social media archives show
Deranged trans gunman Jesse Van Rootselaar’s alarming social media footprint paints a portrait of a deeply disturbed young man with a fixation on hallucinogenic drugs and guns — dating back years before he murdered eight people in one of the worst massacres in Canadian history.
He was a regular contributor on Reddit, and many of his archived posts viewed by The Post, and first confirmed by the Telegraph, include questions — and disturbing revelations — about his extensive drug use.
ian mass shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar enjoyed showing off pictures of himself with guns on social media.

Authorities said Van Rootselaar was born male but started transitioning to female about six years ago.
“Yo what’s the danger in using 5-MeO-DMT alone?” he asked in a November 2023 thread, referring to a potent hallucinogen nicknamed “toad venom” and described by some experts as the “Mount Everest of psychedelics.”
“Genuinely don’t know, not tryna die. I do N,N-DMT frequently and it seems to be completely safe for me,” he said, referencing other powerful hallucinogenic substances.
He also said he was on psychiatric medications, including Zoloft, and in another post claimed to have been diagnosed with ADHD, OCD, major depressive disorder and autism spectrum disorder.
“I am on Sertraline 280mg (SSRI) I on rare occasion take 2mg of Risperidone for sleep purposes (Anti-Psychotic) I also smoke a decent bit of weed,” he wrote, noting he previously had a “complete mental break” while taking a moderate dose of magic mushrooms.
In a post from October 2023, he asks whether it’s safe for him to continue to experiment with psychedelics after claiming to have “burnt my house down my second time trying shrooms.”

One of his posts on Reddit shows him shooting a gold-plated Desert Eagle handgun at a firing range.
“Hi, I’m gonna keep this brief. It’s 4am, got out of the psyche ward like a month ago and now I’m here,” the post starts.
“I tried shrooms once, it was a small unmeasured dose and it was chill. The second time I tried it I took 3 grams of Blue Meanie ground up into some peanut butter and had a complete break from reality and did a lot of irrational things, I felt like I was dreaming. Many consequences ensued.”
In a post from April 2024, he asks, “could someone theoretically get the effects of a substance off an addicts urine?” saying he heard it was possible in song lyrics.
Other postings feature Van Rootselaar showing off his collection of guns, particularly his Chinese SKS semi-automatic rifle, which he posted on a guns subreddit.
“I blew up their desert eagle!” reads a different post featuring a video of Rootselaar firing what appears to be a gold-plated Desert Eagle handgun at a firing range.
Police said he was known to law enforcement before the shootings, and that cops had visited the home several times and took him into custody on a mental health hold more than once.
They also said guns had been confiscated from the home previously, but that they were returned once the legal owner petitioned to get them back. It was unclear who the legal owner was.
Rootselaar killed his mother, Jennifer, and his 11-year-old stepbrother before marching to the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and opening fire there, killing a teacher and five students between the ages of 12-13.
He took his life after the brutal rampage, which mostly took place in the school library.
Cops said at a press conference Wednesday that Rootselaar had been born a biological male, but began transitioning to female about six years ago.
