The Pima County Sheriff’s Department returned to the residence with multiple law enforcement vehicles and personnel, despite having previously released the home to the family after processing it as a crime scene. The renewed police activity comes as authorities shot down reports a family member is a prime suspect in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie.

“At this point, investigators have not identified a suspect or person of interest,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement Wednesday. “The sharing of unverified accusations or false information is irresponsible and does not assist the investigation.”
DNA samples collected at Nancy Guthrie’s home
Federal agents, some wearing shirts identifying them as part of an Internet Crimes Against Children task force, were also seen entering and leaving the home of Nancy Guthrie’s daughter Annie in Tucson.
The sheriff’s department said detectives from various units often wear different uniforms based on their assignments and that acronyms on shirts are not indicative of particular crimes associated with the case.
Police are awaiting lab results from DNA samples collected at the scene. The sheriff has not confirmed whether the samples were blood, but NewsNation documented a blood trail leading to Guthrie’s front door.
The sheriff’s department said it is also reviewing all recent cases in the area, including a possible trespassing report on Jan. 4 in the 6700 block of North Longfellow Drive near the Guthrie home.
NewsNation learned Wednesday that federal agents from a team that has multiple tasks, including analysis of technology, cellphones and computers, were seen visiting Annie Guthrie’s home, where Savannah Guthrie is believed to be staying. The agents entered the house briefly before leaving.

No suspect in search for Savannah Guthrie’s mother: Sheriff
More than 100 investigators are said to be working on the case, and authorities are still awaiting test results on other evidence, including DNA samples and fingerprints.
“That lab will report back to us what they find,” Nanos said. “So far, what we’ve found from that lab is nothing that would tell us this is who did this.”
When was Nancy Guthrie reported missing?
Savannah Guthrie is believed to be staying at her sister’s home, where neighbors have brought food and board games. Multiple security details were stationed outside. Annie Guthrie and her brother Cameron were spotted arriving at the home around midday after leaving for an unknown destination earlier.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen around 9:45 p.m. Jan. 31 when family members dropped her off at home after dinner. She has trouble walking even 50 yards on her own and requires critical daily medication, authorities said.
Sheriff Chris Nanos said she does not have dementia and would not simply wander off.
“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here. She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her,” Nanos said.
Nancy Guthrie has not been seen since Saturday night. She missed her regular Sunday church service, prompting family members to call the police.
Police discovered “suspicious circumstances” at the residence and have designated it a crime scene.
Sheriff investigates alleged ransom note
Authorities are investigating several ransom notes sent to TMZ and at least two Arizona television stations. The station said the note references two pieces of crime scene evidence that have not been disclosed publicly.
The sheriff confirmed they showed an alleged ransom letter to the Guthrie family.
Savannah Guthrie to alleged captors: Prove my mother is alive
On Wednesday, Savannah Guthrie published a video on Instagram appealing to her mother’s presumed captors, asking for proof of life.
“We too have heard the reports about a ransom letter in the media,” Guthrie said, appearing with two siblings in the video. “As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her.”
Guthrie addressed the alleged kidnappers directly: “We want to hear from you, and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.”
