EMPORIA, Kan. (WKRC) – An elementary school teacher was found dead and covered in snow after leaving a bar on Saturday.

According to KWCH, 28-year-old Rebecca Rauber was found dead in a wooded area after vanishing shortly after she left a bar alone in Emporia, Kansas.

The station extended a report of the teacher’s vanishing to its official Facebook account.

Rauber was first reported missing in the early hours of Saturday, January 24, after she left the Town Royal bar on Commercial Street alone and on foot, per the report.

The outlet noted that Rauber left behind the following items:

Her purse

Phone

Jacket

She was reportedly wearing what was possibly a Wichita State sweater or a flannel shirt. During the initial search, authorities reviewed surveillance video from businesses in the area and saw Rauber walking west on W. 5th Avenue.

Another video obtained by authorities showed Rauber walking north on Neosho Street from West 5th Avenue at around 11:37 p.m. on Friday, per KWCH. The videos did not show Rauber crossing 6th Avenue.

Body Discovered

Search dogs and outside agencies were brought in for the search, and authorities later confirmed to KWCH that Rauber was found dead in a wooded area 300 yards south of West 4th Avenue, which was said to be near where she was last seen on video.

Police said Rauber was found covered in snow and is believed to have died from hypothermia at this time, per the outlet’s report.

“Not the outcome that we had all hoped and prayed for, but our thoughts and prayers are with that family. Just wish we could have found her a little sooner,” authorities said when speaking with the outlet.
