Arielle Konig took the stand on the third day of her husband’s trial for attempted murder
Gerhardt Konig, an anesthesiologist, is accused of trying to kill Arielle by pushing her off a cliff and trying to inject her with a syringe last March
Arielle testified that Gerhardt held her down during the ordeal on a 1,200-foot-high lookout and told her: “Nobody’s coming to save you”
As the attempted murder trial for Hawaii anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig continues, his wife’s testimony is revealing what she claims happened during the alleged attack she survived a year ago.
Arielle Konig, a 37-year-old nuclear scientist based in Maui, told a jury this week about the moments before Gerhardt allegedly tried to throw her off a cliff on Oahu on March 25, 2025.
Arielle appeared in court on the anniversary of the attack, which is also her birthday.
She testified that as the couple arrived at the Pali lookout — a scenic spot 1,200 feet high — they came upon two people who appeared lost, and Arielle wanted to help. But Gerhardt told her, “It’d be nicer if it’s just us.”
The beginning of the hiking trail was wooded and rocky, Arielle recalled. “I was just feeling uneasy, I wasn’t enjoying myself,” she said.
“I told Gerhardt, ‘I don’t wanna keep going, I’m not having fun,'” she continued. When asked what made her feel “uneasy,” she said it was the steep cliffs, narrow trail and extremely windy weather.
When she asked Gerhardt to go up the trail, he briefly went ahead before returning to urge her to join him. “It’s really beautiful, you should come up,” he allegedly said, adding: “it’s too dangerous by myself.”

As they came down the trail, Gerhardt asked to take a selfie with their backs to the cliff, she recalled, adding that Gerhardt was very “spatially aware” of her position, including noticing where her feet were. They took the selfie and she held on to a tree, because she was still uncomfortable.
After they took the photo, as Arielle began to move away from the edge, Gerhardt — facing the cliff — allegedly grabbed her arm and yelled, “I’m so f—ing done with this s—” and “get back over there,” trying to pull her toward the edge, she alleged in her testimony.
As she fought him, he allegedly got on top of her and tried to inject her with a syringe, she said. When he was unable to do so, she testified that he allegedly began bashing her head.

Hawaii Doctor’s Wife Testifies About the Desperate Plea That Made Him Pause Alleged Cliff Attack, If Only for a Moment
Arielle Konig testified in her husband’s trial exactly a year after, prosecutors allege, he tried to throw her off a cliff in Hawaii

The Hawaii doctor accused of trying to murder his wife during a hike briefly paused his alleged attack when she made a desperate plea, she testified this week.
Arielle Konig, 37, recalled the horror of the alleged attack to a jury on Tuesday, March 25 as Gerhardt Konig, charged with attempted murder, sat a few feet from her.
The nuclear engineer alleged to the jury her husband, an anesthesiologist on the Hawaiian island of Maui, tried to throw her off a steep cliff at a scenic overlook while the two were celebrating her birthday in Oahu on March 25, 2025.
During a hike while on the trip, Gerhardt is accused of unleashing a series of attacks on her: first dragging her in an attempt to throw her off the cliff, then trying to inject her with a syringe and eventually bashing her head, Arielle said on the third day of the trial.
As the alleged attack went on, Arielle testified, Gerhardt told her: “Nobody’s gonna hear you out here. Nobody’s coming to save you.” She said she tried to fight him, on one occasion biting him and squeezing his testicles, and in another instance, reminding him of their children who would be left without a mother — or both their parents.
She recalled telling him, “You can’t do this …our kids will be orphans…you’ll go to jail…and I’ll be dead.”
“Our kids need us,” she told him, per her testimony.
She recalled him allegedly telling her: “You’re done, we don’t need you anymore.” As she recounted these words to the jury, Arielle choked up, a break from her otherwise collected resolve throughout her testimony.
She eventually said the words the made him briefly pause. “You can’t face our kids after this.”
“He did seem to calm down a little bit,” she recounted, “he took a breath and then he just started hitting me with rocks.”

Gerhardt’s alleged attack stopped when two hikers nearby heard Arielle screaming for help, and intervened.
One of them called 911, Arielle recalled, before Gerhardt allegedly took off. He would be arrested hours later that evening.
The couple, who had been married for over six years at the time, had been going through marital problems since Gerhardt found out Arielle had an “emotional affair” with a co-worker, she told the court.
As they began to reconcile their marriage, Gerhardt would go through her messages most days, and said she wasn’t allowed to be with the co-worker in any one-on-one situation, including electronic communication.
Arielle said during their trip to Oahu, she was “hopeful” for the future of her marriage.
