The Red Light That Never Slept: Inside the Chilling Digital Evidence That Toppled Pop Icon d4vd
LOS ANGELES — For two years, David Anthony Burke, known to millions as the genre-bending superstar d4vd, lived a double life. On stage, he was the sensitive voice of a generation, crooning about heartbreak and vulnerability. But behind the gates of his Hollywood Hills estate, a much darker narrative was being written—one that finally culminated yesterday in a scene few fans could have imagined.
As d4vd was led away in handcuffs by the LAPD on April 16, charged in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the world was left asking one question: How did a global icon hide a body in plain sight for 578 days?
The Silent Accuser: 4K Betrayal
The breakthrough in the case didn’t come from a tip-off or a forensic slip-up; it came from the very technology d4vd surrounded himself with. Sources close to the investigation reveal that the “smoking gun” is a series of encrypted files recovered from the singer’s Tesla Model S.
While the vehicle sat in a dusty North Hollywood impound lot for over a year due to unpaid fees, its Sentry Mode—a sophisticated surveillance system—had been silently recording. Forensic digital analysts reportedly recovered deleted footage from the night Celeste vanished in 2024. The video allegedly shows a figure matching Burke’s physical description struggling with a heavy object near the vehicle’s “frunk” (front trunk) under the flickering lights of a secluded canyon road.
“The car never slept,” a lead detective told reporters. “He thought he had cleared his tracks, but the hardware kept the receipts.”
‘The Cold’: A Song That Became a Confession
Perhaps the most macabre detail of the investigation lies within d4vd’s own artistry. Among the items seized during the April 16 raid was a hard drive containing an unreleased demo titled “The Cold.”
Music industry insiders who have been briefed on the evidence describe the track as “hauntingly specific.” The lyrics reportedly detail the “weight of a secret in the dark” and the “metallic chill of a silver tomb”—details that chillingly align with the recovery of Celeste’s body from the Tesla’s compartment. It raises a terrifying possibility: Was d4vd processing his guilt through the very music his fans used for healing?
The Insider Who ‘Jumped Ship’
While the digital evidence provided the “what,” a Star Witness provided the “why.” A former member of Burke’s inner circle—reportedly a close production assistant—has officially turned state’s witness.
This whistleblower has allegedly provided prosecutors with a timeline of a “hush-money” scheme and a desperate attempt to move the vehicle to an impound lot to “hide it in the system.” The witness’s testimony suggests that the pressure of the upcoming Withered world tour pushed the singer to a breaking point, leading to a series of erratic decisions that ultimately left a trail for the LAPD to follow.
A Family’s Long Wait
In the suburbs where Celeste Rivas Hernandez was last seen walking home from a friend’s house, the mood is one of somber relief. For nearly two years, her face was plastered on “Missing” posters while d4vd’s face was plastered on billboards.
The $300 impound fee that eventually led to the discovery of her remains is a stinging reminder of the bureaucratic failures that allowed a celebrity to remain on a pedestal while a family grieved.
The Legal Battle Ahead
David Anthony Burke is currently being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility without bail. His lead attorney, the formidable Blair Berk, issued a brief statement late last night: “We urge the public not to rush to judgment. Technology can be manipulated, and David maintains his innocence.”
But as the world mops up the shattered remains of d4vd’s career, the music has stopped. All North American and European tour dates have been scrubbed. For the fans, the “bedroom pop” melodies now carry a sinister undertone. The boy who sang about the “Romantic Homicide” is now facing a very real, very permanent reality of his own.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Singer D4vd has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose decomposed body was discovered last year in the trunk of his Tesla in Hollywood, according to reports by Variety.
The 21-year-old Houston-born alt-pop singer, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. He is being held without bail.
Authorities said the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Monday for filing consideration, according to Variety.
Hernandez’s body was found on September 8, a day after what would have been her birthday. She had been reported missing from her home in Lake Elsinore, California, in 2024 when she was a seventh-grade student. She was 14 at the time of her death, although she had initially been reported missing at age 13, citing court filings and law enforcement records.
According to investigators, NPR reported, officers responded to a tow yard after reports of a foul odor coming from a Tesla that had been abandoned in the Hollywood Hills and later impounded. Inside the vehicle’s front trunk, authorities discovered a bag containing a severely decomposed human body.
The remains were later found to be dismembered and placed inside multiple bags, citing court documents.
The Tesla was registered in Texas under D4vd’s name and linked to his family address. Investigators also said the vehicle had been left in an upscale Hollywood Hills neighborhood before being towed.
NPR also reported that the investigation had been ongoing for months and had previously been reviewed by a Los Angeles County grand jury, though D4vd was not publicly identified as a suspect until his arrest. Police had earlier confirmed they were investigating a trip the singer took to the Santa Barbara area in spring 2025 following Hernandez’s death.
D4vd’s representatives had previously said he was cooperating with authorities, although later reports indicated that cooperation had ceased.
Following the discovery of the body, D4vd canceled tour dates and postponed promotional activities related to his music releases.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to file formal charges.
D4vd rose to prominence after going viral on TikTok in 2022 with his track “Romantic Homicide,” which charted on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs list.
Authorities said the investigation remains active, and no trial date has been set.
D4vd arrest: Old Instagram posts resurface amid Celeste Rivas murder case; ‘suffer in worst ways’

The 21-year-old singer is being held without bail, as per authorities, and will be presented to the District Attorneys Office for consideration of charges on Monday.
For a long time, there was no assurance of the progress in the matter as a cause of death had not been determined given the state of the corpse. However, even when the case did move forward, it was kept low profile. The only reason people got to know that D4vd was a target of the police investigation is when it was revealed that his mother, father, and brother, had filed an objection in a Texas court to subpoenas that demanded they testify.

Now, old Instagram posts of D4vd have been flooded with comments from those who’ve been following the case.
D4vd: Old Insta posts in focus after arrest in Celeste Rivas case
D4vd’s social media posts had already seen comments from those who have been following the case. Most of these comments came in the months after Rivas’ body was found in the trunk of his car. Many had warned him about his day of reckoning with the law.
However, fresh comments came up after the news of his arrest broke today.
One person commented on the pinned post of the Withered album release. They wrote “I was right the whole time about this little man. I need apologizes from all the people that wished me and my family death just for calling out someone that killed a little girl and ruined her and her families life forever.” The comment, put up about an hour back, has already garnered 161 likes at the time of writing.
Another post from D4vd about the Withered tour dates also drew comments.
“Everyone is cheering currently in pure joy to see you suffer in the worst ways humanly possible,” one person wrote. A gif was also posted on both posts, showing a damaged car with a driver urging someone to get in.
It is likely a reference to D4vd’s Tesla in whose truck Rivas had been found. Celeste Rivas was found on September 8, a day after she would have turned 15. She was a 13-year-old seventh grader when her family reported her missing in 2024 from Lake Elsinore, her hometown, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles. Authorities noted her age to be 14 when she was killed as per the court documents.
