THE SHATTERED FACADE: SLED Re-Interrogates Tyler Doyle’s Companion as Verified Sonar Exposes Glaring Lies
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The narrative of the tragic duck hunting mishap that closed the book on 22-year-old Tyler Doyle in 2023 has officially collapsed. Following SLED’s bombshell verification that newly emerged sonar images of a human body 13 kilometers away are 100% authentic, state detectives have aggressively turned their focus toward the lone survivor of that fateful afternoon: Doyle’s companion, Christian Holden.
In a dramatic escalation, SLED investigators executed a late-night transport, bringing Holden back into an interrogation room. For over three years, Holden’s timeline dictated the entire investigation. Today, unsealed digital forensics, cell tower data, and newly recovered metadata have shattered his original story, turning the “grieving friend” into the central target of a massive criminal deception inquiry.

The Tower Timelines Don’t Match
On January 26, 2023, Holden told the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) that Doyle dropped him off on the North Jetty, drifted away to scout ducks, and placed a frantic call at 4:00 PM stating his 16-foot jon boat was taking on water.
However, a newly unsealed cyber-forensics report from SLED has completely dismantled this claim. Federal cell tower triangulation logs reveal that Tyler’s phone was already stationary near the 13-kilometer mark—where the body was just verified on sonar—long before Holden ever dialed 911.
“The digital footprint proves Tyler’s device was not drifting helplessly near the jetties when the distress call was allegedly made,” a source close to the investigation leaked. “The timeline was artificially manufactured. We believe the 911 call was a staged performance to establish an alibi while Tyler was already incapacitated miles away.”
The Phantom Boat and the Marina Discrepancy
The physical logistics of Holden’s original statement have also unraveled under rigorous geographic profiling. In 2023, Holden claimed he lost sight of Tyler’s boat as it rounded the South Jetty due to rough seas.
SLED’s recent situational reconstruction proved that from Holden’s exact coordinates on the North Jetty, it was visually and physically impossible to track that specific trajectory.
Worse for the defense, a critical eyewitness from the boat landing has finally broken their silence after 36 months. The witness testified to state detectives that minutes after Tyler and Holden departed, an unmarked, larger twin-engine vessel slipped out of the marina with its navigation lights deactivated, trailing Tyler’s boat.
Detectives now suspect this “ghost boat” was used to intercept Tyler, execute a fatal confrontation, and transport his remains 13 kilometers south to a deep ocean trench, while the small jon boat was deliberately scuttled near the rocks as a high-profile distraction.
Tool-Mark Forensics and Financial Friction
The most chilling piece of circumstantial evidence links Holden directly to the physical anomalies found on Tyler’s recovered gear. When Tyler’s waterfowl waders were pulled from the ocean in 2023, they were assumed to have slipped off during a desperate swim. SLED’s advanced tool-mark forensics unit recently determined the heavy material was cleanly sliced open from behind using a specialized, industrial-grade hunting blade. Investigators have reportedly matched the unique serration microscopic signature to a specific brand of knife frequently documented in Holden’s historical social media archives.
Furthermore, a clear motive is finally emerging from the digital wreckage. Cyber-units successfully recovered deleted, encrypted text threads between Doyle and Holden from the night prior to the disappearance. The messages paint a dark picture of escalating hostility regarding a failed offshore investment and severe allegations of financial betrayal.
The Noose Tightens
As SLED officers systematically tear through the fabrications of the initial report, the institutional protection surrounding the 2023 investigation has vanished. State prosecutors are reportedly reviewing formal charges for obstruction of justice, perjury, and structural deception, with a grand jury sequence looming.
What was once buried beneath the waves as an act of nature has been exposed as a calculating, multi-layered ambush. The iron-clad alibi that stood for over three years has crumbled to dust, and the ocean has finally forced the truth back to the surface.
EXCLUSIVE: Tyler Doyle’s mother, brother open up about his disappearance ahead of 1 year anniversary
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – For the first time since he disappeared nearly a year ago, the mother and brother of a missing boater are opening up about their loved one.
“It’s been a really hard year,” said Doyle’s mom, Michelle Whitlock. “I really want people to know the good, kind-hearted person he was and what a great big brother he was to Reed.”
His younger brother Reed Doyle said Tyler was the person he could always depend on, and he couldn’t have pictured a better brother.
“He’s the most genuine person, the best big brother you can ask for,” said Reed Doyle. “He always took care of me and has always been my person that I could talk to and go to about things and he’d understand and would always make me feel alright.”
Tyler Doyle disappeared on Jan. 26, 2023, when the Jon boat he was in started taking on water by the north jetties, where the Intracoastal Waterway meets the Atlantic Ocean in the Little River area.
Several agencies, including the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, Horry County Fire Rescue and the Civil Air Patrol, spent weeks searching in the air, on the ground and in the water for Doyle.
At this point, the only items that have been found are Doyle’s waders and wallet, which were discovered on Jan. 31, 2023, in Oak Island.
In November, the State Law Enforcement Division joined the investigation to help provide manpower and technical resources in the case.
SCDNR remains the lead agency in the search for Doyle. The agency ruled there was no foul play suspected in Doyle’s disappearance and that it is being investigated as a hunting/boating accident.
Since then the Doyle family has welcomed his daughter into the world.
“I know it made me really happy about his little girl,” said Whitlock. “She looks so much like him. He’d be really proud to be a daddy right now.”
Although the Doyle family spoke with WMBF News, they are asking for respect and privacy as the search for Tyler continues. They said they’re hopeful for answers but will rely on each other and their faith for healing.
“It makes you realize just how valuable every minute is. A lot of times we take it for granted. I’ve definitely learned not to do that this year,” said Whitlock.
It appears that new evidence has been discovered in the case of Tyler Doyle, a duck hunter who went missing around the Little River jetties more than three years ago. His body has never been found.

There were numerous agencies, as well as family and friends, that spent many hours and days searching for Doyle. Now, information reportedly has been shared with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, which is investigating the case, that there may be a sonar photo of Doyle under the water.
The information was shared on a Facebook page that promotes the finding of Doyle and provides updates on the case. The posting said that the photo of Doyle, which shows him lying on the ocean floor, has been shown to other people; however, the photo was never turned over to law enforcement.
The family of Doyle alerted SLED about the possible photo. However, a spokesperson for SLED referred questions to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the lead investigating agency in the case.
A SCDNR spokesperson was checking into the report.
In an interview with The Sun News in 2023, the director of Wisconsin-based Wings of Hope, one of the rescue groups helping to search for Doyle, said that crews had a “target of interest” during one day of the search.
Bradley Smith said that the target could be seen on sonar. Smith at the time wouldn’t say whether he thought it was Doyle, but it was enough of a concern that he gave the information to SCDNR.
Smith told SCDNR about the image, showing the investigator the sonar. Smith is not the person who currently has the sonar photo that was turned over to law enforcement.
SCDNR wouldn’t allow anyone to dive that evening to see whether it was Doyle. Unfortunately, when they returned, the target had moved, Smith said at the time.
Smith also said that his SD card that had the sonar information, including images and the location coordinates, was turned over to lead SCDNR investigator Ronnie Floyd, who allegedly never filed it as evidence.
Doyle’s case still an active investigation
Doyle remains listed as a missing person and the case is considered an active investigation.
The family has criticized the South Carolina Department of Natural Resource’s handling and investigation of the Doyle case.
In early December 2023, the SCDNR announced that it had asked SLED to join in the investigation.

The SCDNR ruled that there was no foul play suspected in the case.
Doyle was hunting at the mouth of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean when his boat began taking on water and capsized. This occurred after Doyle dropped his friend off on the north jetty and then went to scout out ducks, according to the SCDNR report.
Doyle had called his friend, stating that the boat was taking on water. The water temperature that day was 50 degrees and the air temperature was 39 degrees, according to the SCDNR.
Aside from his waders and wallet, no other physical evidence of Doyle has been discovered.
