THE COLD PRECISION OF A MONSTER: The Rooftop Escape and the Final Threats of Shamar Elkins
SHREVEPORT, LA — As the investigation into the Sunday morning massacre at West 79th Street deepens, the image of Shamar Elkins as a man who “snapped” is being replaced by something far more sinister. Newly released testimonies and digital forensics paint a picture of a calculated “Eraser”—a man who moved with military coldness to dismantle his family tree in just 68 minutes.
The “Empty” Hunter: Testimony from the Shingles
The most vital account of the morning comes from a young survivor whose description of Elkins has sent shivers through the Shreveport Police Department. According to the witness, Elkins did not scream, shout, or show signs of rage. Instead, he moved through the house with a “vô cảm” (void of emotion) demeanor, acting with the mechanical efficiency of a man completing a task.
When the shadow fell over the household, the witness and their mother realized their only exit was upward. They managed to scramble through a window and onto the roof. In a desperate “leap of faith,” they jumped from the shingles to the ground below. However, the most heartbreaking detail of the 68-minute rampage was confirmed today: a younger sibling had attempted to follow them onto the roof. Investigators revealed that Elkins spotted the child on the shingles and, with the same chilling silence, ensured they would not make the jump.
“Nothing to Return To”: The Premeditated Trigger
While the public initially pointed to the impending divorce as a moment of sudden madness, digital forensics tell a different story. Investigators have recovered a series of messages sent from Elkins to his wife in the days leading up to the incident.
The messages were not pleas for reconciliation, but prophecies of doom. “If you leave, I will make sure you have nothing to return to,” one text read. Forensic psychologists suggest Elkins viewed his family not as individuals, but as possessions. If he could not own them, he would ensure no one else could either.
68 Minutes of Tactical Silence
The timeline established by CCTV and emergency calls shows a terrifyingly efficient window of violence:
5:55 AM: The first strike on Harrison Street.
The Transition: A calm drive across city lines, bypassing security measures with ease.
The West 79th Execution: A room-by-room sweep where eight young souls were targeted.
7:03 AM: The final confrontation in Bossier City where Elkins was neutralized.
The Survivor’s Burden
The young heroine who leaped to safety and placed the 911 call from the roof is now the primary witness in a case that has redefined domestic terror in Louisiana. She remains under protection as authorities process the horror of what she saw through the glass moments before her escape.
For the city of Shreveport, the “Sunday Morning Silence” left behind by Shamar Elkins is a reminder of the darkness that can hide behind a uniform, a smile, and a “blessed” social media status.
Gun used in Shreveport mass shooting, alleged supplier arrested
Disclaimer: All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Shreveport man faces several federal charges related to providing the gun used by Shamar Elkins in the April 19, 2026, mass shooting.
On April 21, 2026, federal prosecutors charged Charles Ford, 56, with being a felon in possession of a firearm and making a false statement to federal agents, with the firearm and false statement charges relating to the firearm used by Elkins.

According to court documents, ATF and Shreveport police traced the rifle used to kill 8 children and injure 3 others to the original gun purchaser, Ford.
“When law enforcement interviewed the original purchaser, that person identified Ford as the person to whom she’d given it. Ford, a convicted felon not permitted to possess firearms, initially lied to ATF agents about possessing the firearm, claiming he never did. Ford later admitted that he did possess the firearm, claiming that he kept the firearm under his seat. Ford further admitted to believing that Elkins took possession of the firearm,” said United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller.

8 children killed after domestic dispute in Shreveport
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana, Ford faces up to 15 years in federal prison for the felon-in-possession charge and up to five years in federal prison for the false statement charge.
Keller said, “So the charges that we have that were made yesterday are number one, Mr. Ford is a felon in possession of a firearm himself because Mr. Ford was a convicted felon at the time that he possessed this firearm, which went from him to Elkins. Two, he is making a false statement to ATF agents,” said Keller.
Keller stresses that Ford is NOT charged as an accessory to the killings of the 8 children over the weekend, but stated he will be held accountable and that the arrest was a result of the ongoing investigation.
“Words fall short in the face of the acts Shamar Elkins perpetrated in Shreveport on April 19—they are beyond comprehension or description. Our law enforcement partners are investigating every angle of how this tragedy came to occur, and this case arises from that investigation—in particular, how Elkins secured a firearm that he used to execute his own children.”
Keller also commented on the lack of accountability for Elkins.
“Elkins’ death means that our community will never see him face justice. Our hope, as we continue to investigate and prosecute this case alongside our law enforcement partners, is that holding the person whose gun Elkins used to perpetrate the crime accountable will give some small bit of solace to our Shreveport community.”

TIMELINE: Mass shooting that killed 8 children in Shreveport
ATF and the Shreveport Police Department began investigating a firearms trace on the rifle, which Elkins used in the mass shooting.
“The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (“ATF”) is engaged and committed to holding people accountable for illegal possession and use of firearms that harm our community,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson. “Holding people accountable does not stop with the person who pulled the trigger but also includes those who give access to and proliferate firearms that are later used in violent crime.”
