Jakarta. A Ukrainian diplomat said Monday that Kyiv could not confirm nor deny the reports of a crime boss’s son being kidnapped in Bali.
Ukraine news updates
Social media posts have claimed Igor Komarov — the son of the Dnipro-based crime kingpin nicknamed Narik — is currently being held hostage. The man was vacationing on the Indonesian tropical island during the abduction. A three-minute video showed a black-eyed Komarov saying that his captors had demanded a $10 million ransom, which was allegedly the money that the Ukrainian gangsters had stolen from them.
To the Jakarta Globe, Ukrainian Chargé d’Affaires Yevhenia Shynkarenko admitted that Kyiv was aware of the viral posts.
“But as of today, we have not received any addresses to the embassy for any kind of support. We didn’t have any official statements by the local government and authorities, be it the police or immigration office,” Shynkarenko told the Globe.
“We can neither confirm nor deny [the kidnapping].”

According to the English-subbed video uploaded by user @MyLordBebo on the social media platform X, Komarov is already missing his fingers. He showed his bandaged arm to the camera at some point, while warning that the kidnappers might deliver the severed limbs to his folks in the coming days.
In a separate clip, Komarov admitted to running a network of scam call centers targeting Russians. They would pose as bank security service officers who would convince the Russians to transfer money to safe accounts.
Indonesian authorities have not issued any statement at the time of writing.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began four years ago, many of their nationals have escaped to Bali to take their mind off the conflict. Komarov’s girlfriend and social media influencer, Yeva Mishalova, uploaded photos of the couple on Instagram in a post that might have led to the kidnapping. They were seen vacationing in Bali to celebrate Valentine’s Day
Decapitated Head in Bali Tied to $10M Kidnapping of Alleged Ukrainian ‘Criminal Kingpin’ Son
Reports of a decapitated head and scattered remains in Bali are now entwined with an alleged $10M ransom demand and a missing Ukrainian heir.
A decapitated head has been discovered in Bali, believed to have belonged to 28-year-old Igor Komarov, the son of a Ukrainian “criminal kingpin,” according to reports.
How did we get here? It’s a wild ride, so buckle up.
Allegedly, Komarov was kidnapped by a group of men on February 15th while scootering through Bali’s popular tourist area, Jimbaran. It’s purported that the kidnappers found the Ukrainian’s location via social media posts from his girlfriend, fashion influencer Yeva Mishalova. Then, after the capture, they requested a $10 million ransom
An unverified video surfaced, supposedly showing Komarov beat up and pleading to his father, businessman and alleged “criminal kingpin” Oleksandr “Narik” Petrovsky. The video was circulated on Telegram, with Komarov stating:
“Mummy, Daddy, I beg you, help me please, you stole those ten million, which they ask for, return these ten million please. They already chopped off some of my limbs, I have broken legs [and they] punched [my] rib cage. An infection will start soon. I’m just dying.
“Bring me home, what[ever] is left of me at the moment, please settle with these people, they need ten million dollars, which we stole. As soon as these ten million are received in their accounts, they will immediately let me go to the place where they took me. I beg you, please. Please settle. I’ll give you everything back, I’ll work for it, I will give you everything, please. No gangsters will help you, no cops … Do not communicate with any other people.”
Beloved California surfer and hotel owner Kurt Van Dyke was killed in an apparent home invasion in Cahuita, Costa Rica. Police are investigating the brutal crime.
Body parts – including a severed head, leg, and partial torso – were reportedly found in the Wos River, in Bali’s Ubud District, on February 27th. This has led to speculation that the human remains belonged to Komarov.
“The DNA samples will be compared with those of family members who have reported a missing person or kidnapping, including the foreign national reported earlier,” said police spokesperson Commissioner Ariasandy. “We cannot speculate. All possibilities are being investigated, but conclusions must be based on scientific investigation and forensic results.”
All of this is murky and unconfirmed, at least as of now. So, while it sounds like a wild story, and potentially too insane to be true, that may be the case. It certainly does smell fishy. Nonetheless, multiple media outlets – whether credible or not so much – are reporting on the situation. So, something happened. What, exactly, is unclear at this time.
This is a developing story.
