‘WHY DIDN’T HE SAVE HER?’ Best friend of arrested ‘Sailing Hooker’ husband breaks silence over chilling messages—shattering Brian’s alibi as he admits Lynette was ‘swimming toward the boat’ before she vanished

Brian Hooker’s inner circle turns on him as friend Daniel Danforth exposes private texts.
Hooker claimed ‘strong currents’ swept his wife away—but friend says weather was CALM.
Chilling contradiction: Brian messaged friend saying Lynette was swimming back to the boat, sparking the question: ‘Why didn’t he just reach out?’

ABACO, BAHAMAS – The “perfect” facade of the Sailing Hookers has suffered its most devastating blow yet—not from the police, but from the husband’s own inner circle.
Daniel Danforth, a close friend of arrested husband Brian Hooker, 59, has come forward with a series of bombshell text messages that threaten to send the Michigan man to prison for life. The messages, sent in the frantic hours following the “disappearance” of Lynette Hooker, 55, reveal a staggering contradiction in Brian’s account of that fateful night in the Bahamas.
‘Our Family is in Hell’
In the texts, a seemingly distraught Brian told Danforth that his “family was in hell” as search crews failed to locate Lynette. But while Brian was playing the role of the grieving husband, his friend was already smelling a rat.
Danforth has now publicly declared that he “does not fully believe” Brian’s version of events, labeling the story of “strong winds and currents” a physical impossibility for that specific night.
The ‘Smoking Gun’ Question
The most damning revelation involves Brian’s description of Lynette’s final moments in the water. According to the leaked messages, Brian admitted that Lynette was actively swimming toward the dinghy after falling overboard.
This admission has sparked a wave of fury and a haunting question from Danforth that investigators are now using as a centerpiece for their homicide case: “If she were swimming toward the dinghy… why didn’t he try to go get her?”
On an 8-foot hard-bottom dinghy—a vessel so small that a passenger is never more than an arm’s length away—the claim that a “champion swimmer” like Lynette could not be reached by her husband has been branded “maritime fiction.”
“It’s hard to believe strong wind and currents would drag her away so quickly,” Danforth told reporters. “A husband doesn’t just watch his wife swim toward him and disappear. You reach out. You save her. Unless you don’t want her saved.”
The Noose Tightens
The friend’s testimony adds to a mounting mountain of evidence against Brian Hooker, who was arrested by the Royal Bahamas Police Force late Wednesday.
The Daughter’s Claims: Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, had already alerted authorities to Brian’s history of “choking” her mother and his past threats to “throw her overboard.”
The Weather Report: Local meteorological data from Saturday evening contradicts Brian’s claims of “treacherous conditions,” showing relatively calm seas near Hope Town.
The 8-Hour Gap: Police remain fixated on why Brian took nearly nine hours to report his wife missing, claiming he “paddled” for miles despite being an experienced sailor.
A Paradise Lost
As the search for Lynette enters its sixth day, the mission has officially shifted to a criminal recovery operation. FBI agents and U.S. Coast Guard investigators are reportedly analyzing Brian’s phone for further deleted messages, believing the texts to Danforth were just the tip of the iceberg.
For now, Brian Hooker remains behind bars in Abaco. Once a man who shared videos of his “soulmate” and their dream life at sea, he is now the prime suspect in a cold-blooded murder case that has captivated the world.
“The ocean doesn’t keep secrets forever,” one local investigator noted. “And it seems his friends won’t either.”

Mother of missing Michigan woman in Bahamas details alleged past abuse; records show accusations of prior violence
Lynette Hooker’s husband Brian was arrested on Wednesday, days after reporting his wife fell overboard from a dinghy in the Bahamas.
TOLEDO, Ohio — The mother of a woman missing in the Bahamas is speaking about her disappearance and the arrest of the woman’s husband on Wednesday evening.
Darlene Hamlett of Onsted, Michigan, told 11 Investigates on Thursday that Bahamian police are “spot on” to arrest Brian Hooker, 58, for the disappearance on Saturday of her daughter, Lynette Hooker, 55.
Brian reported Lynette missing at 4 a.m. on Sunday, according to Bahamian authorities. On Tuesday, a source close to the investigation said that the search was now a recovery for Lynette.
Bahamian police said Brian reported that the couple had been on a small hard-bottom dinghy heading to their yacht when bad weather caused Lynette to go overboard with the boat key, which caused the boat engine to shut off.
Brian reported that the current carried Lynette away and he lost sight of her. He said he paddled and drifted his way to a marina at Marsh Harbor, where he was able to make the report around 4 a.m. on April 5.
Lynette had been wearing a black bathing suit at the time. She has not been seen since, despite search efforts from the Bahamas Air-Sea Rescue Association and the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Brian Hooker “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and has been cooperating with authorities,” lawyer Terrel Butler told the Associated Press on Thursday.
Butler said Hooker could not provide further comments while investigations continued. As of Thursday afternoon, Hooker had not been charged with a crime.
Hamlett told 11 Investigates that Hooker “abused my daughter physically and emotionally,” and separated several times over their approximately 25-year marriage, as recently as a year and a half ago.
Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth’s boyfriend, Steve, told 11 Investigates on Wednesday that the two spent a couple of months apart and then reconciled.
Hamlett, who lives part of the year in Florida, said she traveled on Wednesday to Miami to talk with the Bahamian Embassy and the U.S. Coast Guard, which is now reportedly leading the investigation into Lynette’s disappearance. She said everyone has been helpful, though she feels helpless.
When asked whether she was worried about the couple’s boating adventures, given their troubled past, Hamlett said, “Are you kidding? Every day I worried, every time we parted.”
Hamlett said she is “doing a lot of investigative work” for the USCG by researching the couple’s troubled history, looking through prior text messages between Lynette and herself, and looking at the couple’s YouTube and Instagram pages, “The Sailing Hookers,” to identify locations where the two stayed for long periods of time.
Aylesworth told media outlets that Brian Hooker choked one of his children, as well as her mother, Lynette, whom he also allegedly threatened to “throw overboard” in the past.
11 Investigates confirmed through court records that Brian Hooker was acquitted by a jury in 2006 of child abuse in Kentwood.

Michigan woman’s daughter calls for ‘full investigation’ into her Bahamas disappearance
Lynette Hooker, 55, has been missing since Saturday evening, when her husband said she fell overboard on their 8-foot dinghy in the Bahamas.
TOLEDO, Ohio — A Michigan woman remains missing four days after she disappeared in the Bahamas.
Lynette Hooker’s husband, Brian, posted to his Facebook on Wednesday that he is “heartbroken” as the search continues.
Brian Hooker, 59, reported his wife, Lynette, 55, fell overboard sometime around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 4.
Bahamian police said Brian reported that the couple had been on a small hard-bottom dinghy heading to their yacht when bad weather caused Lynette to go overboard with the boat key, which caused the boat engine to shut off.
Brian reported that the current carried Lynette away and he lost sight of her. He said he paddled and drifted his way to a marina at Marsh Harbor, where he was able to make the report around 4 a.m. on April 5.
Lynette, 56, had been wearing a black bathing suit at the time. She has not been seen since, despite search efforts from the Bahamas Air-Sea Rescue Association (BASRA) and Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF).

On Wednesday, Brian posted a statement to his Facebook page, thanking authorities for their help:
“I am heartbroken over the recent boat accident in unpredictable seas and high winds that caused my beloved Lynette to fall from our small dinghy near Elbow Cay in the Bahamas. Despite desperate attempts to reach her, the winds and currents drove us further apart. We continue to search for her and that is my sole focus.
Our family is deeply grateful for the Bahamian people’s assistance, especially that of the Hopetown Volunteer Fire & Rescue team, Royal Bahamas police force, Royal Bahamas Defense Force, and the US Coast Guard, who have worked tirelessly in an ongoing effort to bring Lynette back to us. Thank you to everyone for keeping Lynette in your thoughts and for your support of our family during this difficult time.”
11 Investigates reached out to Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, who has been giving media interviews in the days since her mother’s disappearance. Aylesworth’s boyfriend, Steve, talked to 11 Investigates in her presence because he said that Karli is exhausted. He said that Lynette and Steve have been married for approximately 25 years but had a falling out a couple of years ago and took some time apart for a couple of months. They worked on their relationship and got back together.
Aylesworth told media outlets that she wanted a “full investigation” and that the situation isn’t adding up to her.
“It just doesn’t add up why she was swimming away from the boat or why she had the keys,” Aylesworth told CNN. “Sorry, I have known past issues between them have not been good. So, it’s just weird that this is happening now. Like kind of like, okay, you said this was gonna probably happen, and now it’s happening.”
Steve told 11 Investigates, “All relationships have their fights. We just think it’s in everybody’s best interest to look at the full picture.” He said they are still looking for answers and hoping Lynette is still alive and perhaps made her way to shore or was picked up by someone.
Authorities say the search for Lynette has become a recovery mission.
