TUCSON — Investigators pulled off a manhole cover, apparently for a septic tank or similar system, at Nancy Guthrie’s house on Feb. 8 as they continued pushing for new evidence in her disappearance.
Fox News and ABC 15 reporters posted on the investigators’ work as the search for the 84-year-old mom of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie stretched into its eighth day with little new information.
Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Angelica Carrillo said she could not confirm details of the activity, adding that detectives and agents were continuing follow-up work and that no information about those efforts was being released because the investigation was active.
The investigation has yielded few publicly disclosed developments since Guthrie’s disappearance more than a week ago.
Car after car lined Nancy Guthrie’s street as more than a dozen journalists waited for activity at Guthrie’s home. They huddled under the shade offered by the thin branches of palo verde and mesquite trees in the neighborhood.
At the Guthrie family’s request, authorities had tightened security at the residence. Sheriff’s vehicles sat outside the home throughout the day.
“At the request of the Guthrie family, PCSD will maintain a presence at Nancy Guthrie’s residence for security,” the department said on X.
