Sophomore dies after tragic baseball head injury incident
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A high school sophomore is dead after being struck in the head during baseball practice last week.
Bentley Wolfe, 15, of Chrisman, Ill., died from detrimental head trauma due to blunt force trauma, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
On March 2, Wolfe was hit in the head by a line drive baseball that was hit during baseball practice in Chrisman. The next day, he was transported to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria in critical condition.
He was pronounced brain dead on March 6.
Harwood paid his respects to Bentley for being an organ donor and offered his condolences to his friends and family.

A 15-year-old Illinois high school sophomore has died after being struck in the head by a baseball during practice last week.


Bentley Wolfe, a sophomore at Chrisman High School, was hit by a line drive while practicing with his team on Monday, March 2.
According to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, he was initially treated locally before being transported the following day to OSF HealthCare St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria in critical condition.
Despite aggressive medical efforts, he was declared brain dead on Friday, March 6.

An autopsy later determined that he died from blunt force trauma to the head.
His honor walk took place yesterday morning. A facebook post made by his mother states he “successfully created his last mission here on earth by donating his heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and pancreas.”
The tragic incident has deeply affected the small community as students, teammates, and residents mourn his loss.
