Tulsa Police say evidence currently points toward self-defense in the shooting death of Sean Six. The Tulsa County District Attorney will decide whether charges will be filed.
TULSA, Okla. –
Tulsa Police say evidence currently suggests a deadly shooting involving Sean Six in south Tulsa may be a case of self-defense.
Investigators say the Tulsa County District Attorney will ultimately decide whether charges should be filed.
The shooting happened early Tuesday morning at a home in south Tulsa.
Police say the investigation remains active.

What Tulsa Police say happened
Tulsa Police say investigators searched Six’s phone after the shooting and found text messages sent throughout the day.
“Throughout the day, he had sent several text messages to his girlfriend, to the shooter, threatening them,” said Captain Richard Meulenberg with Tulsa Police. “Threatening physical violence on them, and apparently, he was doing this throughout the day to other people as well.”
Police say Six lived at the home where the shooting occurred but had packed some clothes and moved out Monday, several hours before the shooting early Tuesday morning.
Investigators say Six first tried to enter through a window before kicking in the front door.
Police say Six’s girlfriend had invited a friend to the home, and he was there when Six returned early Tuesday morning.
“He comes into the house, bypasses the girlfriend, goes back and finds the shooter and goes to the back bedroom and that’s where he gets shot,” said Capt. Meulenberg.

What Six’s family and friends say
Six’s family and friends dispute parts of the police account.
They say:
Six was a committed and present father to three young sons.
Six did not move out of the house.
Six and his girlfriend got into a fight and he left the home.
While he was gone, the girlfriend changed the locks.
They believe the girlfriend and the man who fired the shots lured Six back to the house.

Investigation continues
Police say emotions surrounding the case are high, and investigators are focusing on evidence.
Officers say they must have probable cause before making an arrest.
“If you boil that away, the emotional stuff, then we are talking about the actual situation where he kicks in the door, he goes after somebody, then he gets shot by that person,” said Capt. Richard Meulenberg. “In Oklahoma, we’ve got Stand Your Ground, you’ve got Castle Doctrine, you’ve got all sorts of things that give you the right to defend yourself, but there are nuances in this case that the DA is going to have to consider as they decide where to go with it.”
The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine whether charges will be filed.
News On 6 is not naming the shooter or the girlfriend because neither has been arrested or charged with a crime.
