The anesthesiologist accused of trying to murder his wife in Hawaii by throwing her off a scenic cliff allegedly admitted to the crime on a FaceTime call with his son soon after, say police.
Gerhardt Konig, 46, is being held on an attempted murder charge after allegedly trying to push his wife Arielle Konig during a hike in Oahu, Hawaii, last week.
According to an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE, Arielle alleges her husband repeatedly struck her in the head with a rock, bashed her face into the ground and tried to inject her with a syringe after attempting to throw her off a cliff at the Pali Lookout, which is 1,200 feet high.
She claimed to authorities Gerhardt got angry when she refused to take a photo with him at a specific spot because she was uncomfortable with the spot’s proximity to the edge of the cliff.
In response, Gerhardt allegedly grabbed her arms, pushed her toward the edge of the cliff and screamed at her, she claimed in a petition for a restraining order filed following the attack that was obtained by PEOPLE.
She alleges Gerhardt yelled at her, saying something along the lines of: “Get back over there, I’m so f—-ing sick of you!”
Arielle pleaded for help during the alleged attack, claiming Gerhardt was trying to kill her, per the affidavit.
After she allegedly managed to escape his clutches a few times, the couple was encountered by two witnesses, one of whom called 911, the affidavit claims. The witnesses stayed with Arielle after Gerhardt fled the scene, according to the affidavit.
In the restraining order filed on Thursday, March 27, Arielle claimed at one point after the incident, Gerhardt allegedly called his adult son and admitted to trying to kill her — and made a remark that she “got away.”
Gerhardt appeared to be “covered in blood” when he allegedly called his son, who was from a previous relationship, on FaceTime, and claimed, “I just tried to kill Ari but she got away,” per the restraining order.
Arielle claimed in the petition that she had learned this information during the investigation, though the restraining order doesn’t cite the source of the information.

Gerhardt then reportedly told his son he planned to jump off a cliff and die by suicide, Arielle learned, according to the restraining order.
Gerhardt has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. He has not entered a plea, per online court information. His lawyers did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
