(NewsNation) — A neighbor of missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie told NewsNation she saw a “suspicious man” in the area weeks before her disappearance.

The 84-year-old mother of “Today” host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing Feb. 1, and authorities believe she was abducted from her home in the late night or early morning hours. Although multiple ransom notes have been reported, she has still not been located.

The neighbor, who lived around the corner, told NewsNation she and Guthrie would take walks together.

The neighbor said she saw a man acting strangely heading toward Guthrie’s home sometime around Jan. 11, a date for which the FBI is seeking doorbell camera footage from other neighbors.

“I’m getting ready in the morning, and I saw him out there, so I couldn’t make out his face. He was in kind of street clothes, not shoes that you’d walk in, and he had a baseball hat really low, and he was kind of hunched over, and he was kind of looking around, and he just didn’t fit,” she told NewsNation.

“He wasn’t going terribly quickly like a normal person who’s getting exercise. He was kind of going slowly, and when he walked by this street, he really took a long look at it.”

 

The neighbor said she spoke to the FBI about the sighting.

Police had previously released videos and photos of a suspect in the disappearance last month.

The footage, taken from residual data in the backend systems of Guthrie’s Google Nest camera, shows someone wearing a full face mask, gloves and a backpack walking up to the home.

The suspect appears to have a flashlight in their mouth and a gun in a front holster. They’re seen placing a gloved hand over the camera lens, then using a nearby shrub to further conceal the device.

Search for Nancy Guthrie stretches into second month

On Thursday, FBI agents were seen investigating the home directly west of Guthrie’s as the search stretched into its second month.

A body was found along a canal in Phoenix last week but was not linked to Guthrie’s disappearance.

 

Savannah Guthrie returned to the “Today” set in New York last week for an off-camera meeting with staff.

“I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me,” she told them, according to “Today.” “And I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be.”
