Major Fire Breaks Out at Train Station in London—Initial Damage Reported

A TRAIN station has been evacuated after a massive fire broke out.

The blaze broke out by a train track in south London, and the power was cut off so firefighters could extinguish it.

Trains were cancelled or delayed overnight, but are now running again.

Thick plumes of smoke were filmed rising over the nearby buildings in a “very visible blaze”.

Onlookers filmed the bright flames after the fire broke out just outside Queens Road Peckham station.

The power to the track was cut and trains halted in both directions so that firefighters could access the fire.

There are no reports of any injuries.

National Rail said in a post on X in the early hours of the morning: “Trains can now run as scheduled following the fire brigade are dealing with an incident between Peckham Rye and Canada Water / London Bridge.”

The London Fire Brigade said in a statement last night: “Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters have been called to train track fire between Queen’s Road Peckham and South Bermondsey railways stations.

“Fire crews are tackling a fire on train tracks above arches. Passengers have been evacuated from Queen’s Road Peckham Railway station. There are no reports of any injuries.

“Trains have been stopped in both directions and the power on the tracks has been isolated to allow fire crews to gain access to the track.

“The fire was a very visible blaze. The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received the first of 90 calls at 2049 alerting them to the fire. Firefighters remain on scene.

“Fire crews from Greenwich, New Cross and Old Kent Road fire stations attended the scene.”
