Nearly 72 hours since Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was first reported missing, authorities remain hopeful that the 84-year-old is still alive.
“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a new interview with NBC’s Liz Kreutz, which aired on the Today show on Wednesday, Feb. 4. “She’s present. She’s alive, and we want to save her.”
However, authorities have been upfront about having no suspects as they continue to search for Nancy.
“The leads we’ve got coming in are critical to us,” Nanos noted. “They’re valuable and we’re sharing those with the FBI and others.”
The FBI has now become involved in the search, urging anyone with tips or leads to call 1-800-CALL-FBI in addition to the Pima County Sheriff’s Office number, 520-351-4900.

Authorities believe Nancy was kidnapped from her home in the night sometime between when she was last seen by her daughter Annie on Saturday, Jan. 31, around 9:30 p.m. and when a friend from church called her family to report she didn’t attend the next day.

And while it is believed that Nancy has been abducted, police have admitted that they don’t have any details beyond that assumption.
“No clue,” Sheriff Nanos said of the amount of potential kidnappers during a press conference on Tuesday. “It could have been one. It could have been more.”
A trail of what appears to be drops of blood are visible on the front steps of Nancy’s Tucson, Ariz., home, along with the remnants of an apparent Ring camera that has been removed from the front door area, PEOPLE previously confirmed.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has not responded to requests from PEOPLE for comment about the apparent blood trail, and it is still unclear whose blood was found at the home.
Police have noted that Nancy has “no cognitive issues” and is “very alert” though she is not in good physical health. Nancy has mobility issues and takes daily medication crucial to her survival. She has now been without her medicine for days. The 911 call reporting Nancy as missing revealed that the mother of three has high blood pressure, a pacemaker and cardiac issues.
Along with Savannah, 54, and Annie, Nancy is also mom to son Camron.
Amid the ongoing search for her mom, Savannah has been absent from Today and has pulled out of covering the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony for NBC on Feb. 6.
