A devastating update regarding the 12-year-old boy who was mauled by a shark on Sunday in the Sydney, Australia harbor, kicking off a nightmare series of four attacks in 48 hours.

Nico Antic was swimming in the suburb of Vaucluse, launching off a jump rock into the water with a group of friends. Then, amidst the murky waters, he was attacked by a suspected bull shark. One of his friends jumped in after Antic, and dragged him ashore.

Now, in an update, the young boy is facing the “worst possible outcome.”

A GoFundMe account has been created by a close friend of the family to support them in this difficult time. According to Victor Piñeiro, who started the crowdfunding effort:

“Tragically, their beloved child, Nico, was attacked by a shark on Sunday in Sydney harbour and sustained devastating injuries. Despite all efforts, this heartbreaking event has led to the worst possible outcome.”

Per an exclusive, speaking with a family member, the Daily Mail reported Nico “remains alive in hospital but is brain-dead and will never wake up.”
