PART 1: THE TRAP AT 200 METERS
The Manila night sky glittered with the lights of modern high-rise buildings. But on the 45th floor of an unfinished skyscraper in the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) financial district, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense and deadly.
Andres—a Filipino structural engineer—was cornered right at the edge of a steel beam on a floor lacking safety glass barriers. A fierce wind blowing from a height of over two hundred meters whipped violently through his safety vest. Right in front of him, Dante, a corrupted business partner turned money-laundering kingpin, held a long iron bar, a sinister smile playing on his lips.
The truth had unraveled when Andres discovered that Dante and his crew were using substandard construction materials and cutting corners on steel reinforcement to embezzle millions of pesos in public funds, putting a massive public project at risk of total collapse. When Andres intended to take the evidence to the authorities, he was ambushed late at night at the deserted construction site.
“You know too much, Andres. A tragic fall from a great height… the story will write itself very neatly,” Dante muttered coldly as he stepped closer, his piercing gaze devoid of any mercy.

The iron bar smashed heavily against the steel beam, sending out a shower of bright sparks that tore through the night.
Capitalizing on Dante’s forward momentum and loss of balance after the missed swing, Andres used all his strength to tackle the man down. The two tumbled frantically near the edge of the building’s drop-off. One of Andres’s shoes hung suspended in empty air, small pebbles falling freely into the invisible, deep darkness below.
Dante cursed heavily, shoving Andres off as he scrambled to stand up for a finishing kick. But Andres was a beat faster. He pulled out a rugged tablet device doubling as a crane control transmitter that he kept hidden in his jacket pocket.
“Did you think I wasn’t prepared, Dante? Every security camera feed and material inspection log was live-streamed straight to the BGC police headquarters two minutes ago!” Andres shouted over the howling wind.
Right at that moment, from the night sky outside, blinding searchlights from a Philippine National Police (PNP) helicopter suddenly beamed directly onto the 45th floor of the construction site. Sirens wailed and engines roared, echoing across the entire neighborhood.
Panicked by the sudden arrival of the police, Dante lunged forward to grab the device from Andres’s hands. But under the glare of the searchlight and the thunderous footsteps of the special forces unit rushing up the emergency stairwell, Dante’s foot caught a slack steel cable. He lost his balance, slipping and tumbling right toward the edge of the beam.
In a split-second reflex, Andres lunged forward and grabbed Dante by the wrist, jerking him back from the abyss just a fraction of a second before he would have plummeted to his death.
Minutes later, the special operations team arrived, slapping handcuffs on Dante and hauling him away in defeat. Andres stood tall atop the towering skyscraper, looking down at the brilliant, glittering city lights below. Once more, the integrity and courage of brave individuals in the Philippines triumphed over evil amidst the high-altitude winds and clouds.
