Benjamin Hollingsworth was certainly in for a wild ride in the latest season of Virgin River.

The actor, 41, revealed in an interview published Friday, March 13, that there was “nothing cushy” about the sex scene he filmed in character as Dan Brady for the show’s seventh season, which found him positioned uncomfortably on a motorcycle.

The scene featured Brady and Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen) sharing an intimate moment on a bike at his motorcycle shop. Before the get-together wrapped, he was shirtless on the motorcycle and the whole thing turned out to be a “workout,” he later told Soaps.com.

Acting sexy on the bike, Hollingsworth said, “presented some challenges.”

“Just technically, they had to ground the motorcycle. So off-camera, there [are] ties holding it into place,” he said. “I’m also arched backwards over this thing for multiple hours. So it was not natural for your back to do that. And I don’t think my abs got a better workout ever. It should be like a new ab routine called The Motorcycle.”

Hollingsworth then compared the location of his character’s latest activities to sitting on a gym ball, but one that was “not cushy.”

“There’s nothing cushy about this. So what maybe played as pleasure also was pain,” he joked. “There should be like a little warning: Do not try at home.”

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told the outlet that, “at times,” filming the scene started to “veer ’80s music video,” so those behind the scenes opted to “pull it back as much as we could.” It was also soundtracked by INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart,” which the showrunner said ultimately “worked out.”

“I would just love to see them actually have a moment of just them being together and no cloud hanging over them,” Hollingsworth told Soaps.com of the characters’ storylines. “Just a moment of peace would be really, really nice. And then, naturally, you know, they would have a wedding, and they would have kids. There’s lots to explore.”

Hollingsworth also caught up with Entertainment Weekly about the love scene, which arrived not too long after another intimate moment took place on a pool table for the show’s sixth season.

“The human body is not meant to have sex on a motorcycle,” he said. “My back hurt for weeks. I was arching my back over that thing. Talk about an ab workout. … It might’ve translated as pleasure or lust on screen, but Ben Hollingsworth was in pain!”

“I knew it was coming, but I didn’t know it wouldn’t be until episode 9. It felt earned that way,” he added. “Emotionally, when you earn something, it does kind of set the mood for the audience because they feel fulfilled.”

Hollingsworth previously caught up with PEOPLE about the latest season of Virgin River back in November. The series was renewed in July for an eighth season by Netflix.

“The other big question is what’s going to happen with Brie and Brady,” Hollingsworth told PEOPLE at the time, before fans’ questions were answered. “Mike [played by Marco Grazzini] also proposed to Brie, so there’s a lot to reconcile and to figure out the season between Brie and Brady and Mike and Brie.”

He added, “I won’t say that the love triangle necessarily continues, but I will say that it’s a season-long journey that I think will have its ups and downs and moments where fans can really feel happy and moments where fans can feel frustrated.”
