The case of a renowned doctor in Hawaii accused of plotting to murder his wife by driving his car off a cliff has taken a shocking new turn. In the latest court hearing, the wife testified directly, reenacting the life-or-death moment and her “final plea” that caused her husband to pause—albeit for a moment
The woman who survived an alleged murder attempt by her husband during a birthday trip in Hawaii testified in his trial on the anniversary of the attack.
Arielle Konig, 37, took the stand before a jury on Tuesday, March 24, to testify against her husband Gerhardt Konig in his attempted murder case.
Gerhardt is accused of attempting to push Arielle off a cliff in Oahu, Hawaii while on a trip to celebrate Arielle’s birthday on March 24, 2025.
Arielle survived the alleged attack after hikers nearby heard her screaming for help and called 911, she told the jury during Tuesday’s court appearance, which was live-streamed by Court TV.
During her testimony, Arielle recalled the details of the events leading up to the alleged attack.
On the day of the incident, Gerhardt, an anesthesiologist on the Hawaiian island of Maui, allegedly took her on a hike on a steep cliff in Oahu.
At one point, Arielle refused to go up an elevation out of fear of how steep it was.
She told the court she later took a photo with Gerhardt against a steep cliff, even though it had made her uneasy. She asked him to step aside so she could move away from the edge and down the trail.
As she walked toward him, Gerhardt allegedly grabbed her by her arms and began saying, “I’m so f—ing done with this s—” and “get back over there” before he got on top of her.
“He was first trying to pull me closer to the cliff,” Arielle told the court, adding that she then saw a syringe in his hand and heard him say “hold still.”
As he allegedly dug his left hand through his backpack and held her down with his right hand, he said, “F— you, you’re done” and “I’m so sick of your s—,” she recalled.

Arielle testified that she tried to pry his fingers away because she could see he was holding a vial, as he continued: “Shut the f— up. Nobody’s gonna hear you out here. Nobody’s coming to save you.”
She tried to make him stop by talking about their children, she told the court.
“Our kids will be orphans,” she said of what she told him. “You’ll go to jail and I’ll be dead, our kids need us.”
He allegedly continued: “You’re done. We don’t need you anymore.”
As she spoke about their kids, Arielle told the court that Gerhardt appeared to calm down slightly before taking a deep breath and starting to hit her with rocks.
He stopped after two hikers nearby responded to her calls for help and called 911.

The wife of a Hawaii anesthesiologist who survived his alleged murder attempt atop a steep cliff was seen bloodied and being helped down the trail by two women in police bodycam footage shown in court.
Arielle Konig, 36, testified in a Hawaii court this week in the attempted murder trial of her husband Gerhardt Konig.
Gerhardt, an anesthesiologist from Maui, is accused of trying to push Arielle, a nuclear scientist, off a cliff before trying to inject her with a syringe and bashing her head with a rock during a hike on March 24, 2025 on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
In the bodycam footage, Arielle could be seen with blood smeared across her face after she survived the alleged attack.
The footage shows a responding officer approach Arielle and the two hikers who called 911 when they heard Arielle screaming, “He’s trying to kill me.”
They can be seen slowly coming down to the landing where the officer had arrived. One person helps Arielle sit down on the ground while they, along with the two witnesses, sit by her to render aid.

The responding officer told the court on Wednesday, March 25, that Arielle sounded weak as she spoke to officers.
The audio was not played in court, but Arielle can be seen trying to communicate using her hands as blood streams down her face.

Earlier this week, Arielle recounted the harrowing details of the alleged attack, and how she went on the hike feeling “hopeful” about the future after marital issues she was facing with Gerhardt.
While on the hike, which was to celebrate Arielle’s birthday, Gerhardt allegedly tried to drag her to the edge of a steep cliff and when she tried to fight him, he got on top of her and said, “Nobody’s coming to save you.”
Gerhardt escaped after the two hikers, seen in the bodycam footage, heard Arielle screaming and called 911.
