The gruesome discovery of a severed head and other body parts washed up along a Bali beach have been connected to the kidnapping of Ukrainian Igor Komarov. The 28-year-old was allegedly taken by a group of men back in February, with a disturbing video demanding ransom money being released shortly afterwards.

Human remains were discovered last week at the mouth of the Kos River. Police claimed that the body parts had an 80% similarity with Komarov. According to an article from the Daily Mail, officers found a head, right leg, upper chest sections, thighs, and internal organs. Authorities were able to identify the remains using forensic evidence, including samples from a molar tooth and fragments of bones, as well as DNA tests which matched Komarov’s mother.

What happened to Igor Komarov?

The Ukrainian national was spending time in Bali with his partner, Yeva Mishalova, on February 14th, Mishalova posted a photo of the happy couple on a boat, celebrating Valentine’s Day. However, just one day later their romance would be cut tragically short. Komarov was reportedly kidnapped while riding a scooter in Jimbaran, Badung. Investigators suspect that the social media posts could have possibly revealed Komarov’s location to the kidnappers.

It’s believed the alleged kidnappers wanted a ransom. Shortly after his kidnapping, a deeply disturbing video surfaced online showing a distressed and severely beaten Komarov pleading for his parents’ help. In the video, the man was seen with two black eyes and appeared to be missing a hand. Komarov told his parents, “They already chopped off some of my limbs.” He also stated that his captors had broken his legs, punched his ribcage, and he was now on medication.

The kidnappers asked for $10 million from Komarov’s parents:“Please settle with these people, they need ten million dollars, which we stole.” Komarov claimed he will be let go immediately once the money is paid.

A tragic end

Details on the case are unclear, but unfortunately for Komarov, he would never make it out of his situation alive. The body parts from last week indicate that he died roughly three days before the discovery.

As for the kidnappers, the search continues. Police were able to track a minibus GPS to a villa in Tabanan where they believe the ransom video was recorded. A Nigerian man who rented the car was also arrested last week, although it was determined that he was “not directly involved” in the alleged kidnapping.

Police have identified six suspects they believe may have something to do with the case, although so far the manhunt has yielded no results. It is believed that at least four of them have fled Bali.

The unknown attackers seized Igor from Jimbaran, according to his friend Yermak Petrovsky, who managed to escape the terrifying ordeal and contact the police.

After the alleged captors took the tourist – who is from Ukraine – they are said to have demanded £7million from his family.

It’s understood that a graphic video circulated online appearing to show the 28-year-old badly beaten and bruised, begging for his parents to pay the multi-million-pound ransom to his kidnapper.

The unverified video seems to show Igor claiming that his legs and ribs have been broken and that some of his fingers have been cut.

In a separate unverified video, man claiming to be Igor allegedly admitted to running a bank account “scamming” business.

Local cops are trying to determine the authenticity of the clips.
