Police did little to dispel speculation that a woman may have lied to police when she told them her 2-year-old child (corrected from 3-years-old) went missing from her home early Monday.
While officers stopped well short of publicly disputing her story, they specifically wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen Genesis Reid within the past 30 days.
That seems significant with neighbors saying they had not seen the toddler for several weeks. One person said he casually asked Adrienne Reid about her daughter on Saturday, she evaded the question.
There was another indication that investigators may be suspicious of Adrienne Reid’s account when reporters asked police if they encouraged public searches for the girl.
“I don’t think we’re at a point right now to have mass search parties,” Enterprise Police Capt. Billy Haglund said in response to a reporter’s question.
In contrast, when a young boy was missing in Enterprise several weeks ago, dozens of people joined the search. He was found safe.
Despite speculation, Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox said the No. 1 objective is to find Genesis, though he also alluded that there could be more to the story.
Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd pledged his department’s unrelenting cooperation to solve this mysterious case, including the use of its helicopter.
Authorities first reported Genesis age as 3, but later amended her age to 2, with her third birthday next month.
Also, her name in public identifying documents, is listed as Genesis, not Genesis as is on the wanted poster.
